BEWARE

Not only are CanWest Van Lines unprofessional, they are negligent. I used them for a cross border (US to Can) move in July 2021 and the storage of our items until we found a home here. I paid them upfront as required by them for cross border moves. Instead of a moving truck, they rented Uhaul trucks locally. Instead of moving our things across the border with us, they stored them in the US. Then didn't pay for that storage resulting in all our things being auctioned off by the storage company for non-payment. The agent "miraculously" found the buyer of our things but left it to me to BUY our things back (some of which had already been sold or thrown out). After phone calls and emails I have heard nothing back from CanWest. They are a reprehensible company who caused significant financial and psychological damage and I will be taking this further.

Very Bad Experience.

While I was inquiring about moving company to move my stuff a man call me that I though was from the company I had researched and contacted however this man was from Canadian West Van Lines he made several comments about other moving companies adding other hidden charges and unreliability etc..so after a conversation with them and getting a quote and being told there would be no other charges and hidden charges (as stated as above). I made the reservation 2 months in advance with a $700.00 deposit I contacted them about 7 to 9 days prior to the move to make sure everything was ok and still a go. I was told that my truck was rebooked cause I did not contact them earlier to confirm the truck even after the $700 deposit was made, they did however manage to get a u haul truck. We were then told that there were going to be extra fees added to the truck, a gas fee and taxes. After a discussion and a reminder that we were told there would be no extra fees.. We were still charged the extra $250. On the day of moving the truck was 4 hours late after they assured us they would be available first thing in the morning, Also there was conversation by them stating they expected us to have food for them. They did manage to pack the truck with no issues except for the drip try from the bbq which dripped all over newly cleaned carpet the movers then proceeded to trample this grease into the carpet ..I had to try to clean it up with them going up and down the stairs as they would not wait for me to finish. They did not take everything and I had to make two trips by my personal truck. When they arrived at the new house lots of item were not put into the proper location my brother overheard them saying they got onto the wrong ferry which was why they were late not because of the reported car accident, also they were arguing in front of my family. These guys were rushed from the start due to poor planning from the office and therefore they didn't have the time to do the job correctly and we got the worst service from it ..do not use this company without doing research first.

Our move.

I never write these review things but when someone is excellent, I feel the need to share it with others. We were a bit worried having our prized possessions being moved from Texas to British Columbia. I was starting at a new company and our family's lived here for 15 years. We spoke with a few of the biggies and decided on Canwest. They were great. Everything they said they would do, they did and more. When we had a problem with the border they sorted out our customs paper work and even found a place for us to kennel our dogs. Mark even recommended the realtor whom found our new home. I started work in our new home in a week after we arrived. We didn't skip a beat. Once we arrived two of our Waterford glasses were broken. When I called them about this, Mark apologized (can you imagine a moving company apologizing?), asked me where they were purchased and in two weeks they were replaced! I'd work with them again in a heartbeat.

Recent Move.

They did a fantastic job and it was long weekend too! I am handicapped and was concerned about being taken advantage of. Canwest worked with me and the government and gave me a discounted rate too. I finally looked for a mover to relocate me from Van to the Burnaby. I saw Canwest on Craigslist. But these blokes were able to fit me in over the long weekend. I needed a 2 bedroom to be packed up. They managed to get everything out of my old home, have it cleaned, and over to Burnaby by sundown. They set everything where I asked and I was all set for the next day. They even unpacked and assembled the bed. Thanks! If I ever have to move again I know where I'll call. 10 out of 10!!
